Monroe County CARES participated in the nationwide DEA Prescription Drug Take-Back on April 25th. Coalition members set up at the Tompkinsville Wal-Mart and collected unused or expired medications, as well as distributing prescription drug lock-boxes to those wishing to have a safe, secure place to store their medications. 36.5 pounds of medication were collected and taken to the State Police post in Columbia for disposal. Statewide, 1,200 pounds of medication were collected, for a total of 780,158 pounds collected across the nation.   

The prescription drug drop-boxes, located in the Tompkinsville Police Department and the Monroe County Sherriff's office were also emptied for disposal.
